According to the announcement from the co-founders of Lyft, their drive for a sustainable initiative is inspired by Paul Hawken’s “Ecology of Commerce,” which shows that industry and the environment don’t have to conflict and can work together with the right solutions. To further their efforts, Lyft invested millions to make all their rides carbon neutral and directly finance emission reduction efforts in the auto industry, renewable energy, forestry, and landfill emissions capture. By 2019, they had spent over $2 million on carbon credits, equivalent to offsetting 2 million metric tons of emissions from their operations.
